Pharmacy revamps prescription delivery system

A pharmacy in Hertfordshire is to deliver prescriptions to non-dispensing patients in the area.

Pharmacies typically ask people who live within 1.6km of their local surgery to pick up the medication they require or pay for it to be delivered.

However, Bassingbourn Pharmacy is introducing a free prescription delivery service that will run five days a week.

Anil Shama, a pharmacist at the facility, said: "It is available to anyone, including people that will be at work.

"As long as there is someone ready to take responsibility for it then it is fine."

Speaking to the Royston Crow, she revealed that since the service went live on June 12th, the response from the public has been very positive.

This comes after Andy Murdock of Lloydspharmacy hailed the government's recent white paper on NHS reforms for having the potential to give pharmacy having a much broader role in the delivery of public health.
